Abstract
Ti-13Nb-13Zr (TNZ) is a near-β biomedical titanium alloy containing Nb and Zr as biocompatible alloying elements and is of interest for orthopaedic implant applications where reduced elastic modulus is desirable. Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) enables the fabrication of geometrically complex metallic components; however, the relationship between process parameters, densification behavior, surface quality, and mechanical response in LPBF-processed TNZ requires further investigation. This study investigated the effect of laser power (160–200 W), scan speed (800–1200 mm/s), and hatch spacing (0.090–0.115 mm) on LPBF-fabricated Ti-13Nb-13Zr using a full design of experiment comprising 27 cubic specimens at a fixed layer thickness of 30 µm.
Relative density was evaluated for all specimens using the Archimedes method, and surface roughness was measured to assess the as-built surface condition
