Abstract
Mediterranean river systems are highly dynamic environments subjected to multiple anthropogenic pressures and an increasing frequency of extreme hydrological events, making river restoration a key component of contemporary water management strategies. This study focuses on the Río Sot (Sot de Chera, Spain) following the 2024 DANA flood event, with the aim of providing technical and scientific information to support future restoration actions and participatory decision-making processes. The research is structured around three main components: (i) water quality assessment based on historical datasets and field campaigns conducted before and after the event; (ii) analysis of riparian vegetation recolonisation patterns through spatial mapping; and (iii) hydrological and spatial assessment integrating hydraulic modelling with an evaluation of the interaction between the updated floodplain extent and agricultural land use.
Water quality analysis indicates overall stability in the long-term historical dataset
