Abstract
Environmental engineering increasingly depends on spatial data. Climate adaptation, water management, hazard assessment, and resource monitoring all rely on geographic information produced by satellites, ground sensors, models, and public monitoring networks. Many of these datasets are now openly available, but availability alone does not make them easy to use. In practice, data are often distributed in different formats, coordinate reference systems, metadata structures, and software-specific workflows. For research groups and small public institutions, the difficulty is therefore not only to find environmental data, but also to transform them into information that can be visualised, shared, and analysed in a reproducible way.
This thesis studies how open-source geospatial tools can help reduce this gap
