Climate change is one of the most challenging and pressing aspect of our century. The emission of greenhouse gases does not seem to decrease, and the energy sector has a persistent centrality in the global emissions profile. Consequently, the transition towards low-carbon energy systems has become central both in the international and national climate policies. Renewable energy technologies are widely recognized as a milestone of the decarbonization process. Among renewable technologies, wind energy is emerging and rapidly expanding, thanks to the maturity of the technology. However, the spread of wind energy has often generated local conflicts, revealing a gap between the support and need for climate action and the social acceptance toward specific projects.
