Analysis of Transient Thermal simulation for Additive Manufacturing EBM application.
Rel. Luca Iuliano. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Mechanical Engineering, 2026
Abstract
This thesis is focused on the execution of digital simulations of heat treatments for realistic industrial application. Specifically, a thermal simulation software was evaluated with the aim of predicting the temperature distribution generated during the solution heat treatment process within low-pressure turbine blades manufactured in Ti-48Al-2Nb-2Cr. Through an in-depth analysis of the thermal phenomena involved and a systematic comparison between simulated results and experimental data obtained from the actual treatment, this work seeks to define an optimal compromise between computational time and accuracy, with the goal of improving simulation reliability and, as a result, production efficiency. The thesis is structured in two parts.
The first, theoretical in nature, presents Additive Manufacturing (AM) and the state of the art, with focus on Powder Bed Fusion – Electron Beam (PBF-EB) technology employed for the production of the components under study
