Abstract
As such, detailed analysis and optimization study is done for a high-performance component, a component not yet used but under development. The component in question is the Accelerator fabricated by Direct Metal Laser Melting (DMLM) technique with a Cobalt-Chrome (CoCr) alloy in this thesis. This study was performed in collaboration with GE Avio Aero, a GE Aerospace business that designs, manufactures and maintains propulsion systems for civil and military aeronautics. The component itself is uniformly printed with a layer thickness of 50μm. In metal additive manufacturing, production speed is key to industrial acceptance. Although the first procedure, applying 50μm layer thickness for the part and support structures, consistently produced high quality output, However, we want to study a process in which not all the components will have a constant layer thickness.
To alleviate this, the main interest of this work is to analyse the effect of a substantial variation in the process parameters for the support: the layer thickness of the support structures increases from 50 to 100μm while the main component stays at 50μm
