Study and Optimization of an Automated Assembly Line: Quality Process Improvement and Mechanical Redesign to Enhance OEE.
Rel. Maurizio Schenone. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Mechanical Engineering, 2026
Abstract
This thesis focuses on the study and optimization of an automated assembly line with the object to improve process quality and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). The thesis project was carried out of Tirrenia Plast S.r.l., a company specialized in the manufacturing and assembly process of components for industrial applications, particularly in the electrical field. The work was focused on an automated assembly line dedicated to the production of an electromechanical component. An initial analysis was conducted to identify and classify the main critical issues of the line. Through analytical and numerical methods, several improvements were implemented in process parameters and line components.
The results demonstrate a significant reduction in defects and production downtime leading to an increase of the overall efficiency
