Abstract
The sustainability of spaceflight has become an increasingly critical concern, motivating the development of innovative concepts for the recovery of orbital launcher stages to enable their reuse or recycling (Design not to Demise, Dnot2D). These concepts aim to reduce space debris and improve the overall efficiency of launch systems. While analytical methods for blunt-body aerodynamics provide good first-order estimates during early design phases, they are often insufficient to predict the aerodynamic stability and performance of unconventional geometries, particularly in the transitional and continuum regimes. Detailed numerical investigations are therefore required to assess stability and aerothermal behavior during these critical flight phases.
Previous analyses have revealed initial stability differences between flow regimes for the current Dnot2D re-entry configuration
