Abstract
High-fidelity digital twins are widely employed during aircraft design and validation, yet their direct exploitation during flight test operations remains limited. Their integration with live flight telemetry offers significant potential to enhance situational awareness and decision-making, particularly in the development of innovative and highly complex aircraft platforms such as electric and hybrid-electric VTOL architectures. In these contexts, elevated levels of uncertainty and operational risk motivate the need for tools that leverage existing simulation models to support live decision making while limiting the additional operational workload. This thesis presents the development and implementation of a simulation-augmented flight test approach that integrates offline simulations performed prior to flight and real-time simulations executed in parallel with flight operations within the telemetry environment.
A key aspect of the proposed approach is the use of the same high-fidelity digital twin originally developed for aircraft design and offline analysis, avoiding the need for a dedicated flight-test-specific simulator
