Abstract
The evolution of the space sector towards distributed architectures, such as the Italian IRIDE program, introduces new challenges in flight operations management, particularly during the orbital phasing stage. In this context, this thesis, developed in collaboration with Telespazio at the Fucino Space Centre, addresses the problem of maneuver optimization for constrained satellite platforms, aiming to minimize propellant consumption while ensuring accurate relative positioning of the satellites. This work describes the development of a high-fidelity flight dynamics simulator based on the Orekit library. The accuracy of the physical model is ensured by a numerical propagator coupled with detailed force models, including geopotential perturbations, solar radiation pressure (SRP), atmospheric drag, and third-body effects.
The core element of the architecture is a maneuver planner capable of managing both in-plane corrections, for semi-major axis and eccentricity control, and out-of-plane maneuvers, aimed at controlling inclination at the nodes
