Abstract
This thesis presents a scoping review of the literature on road safety in micromobility, with a specific focus on e-scooters and e-bikes and on how perceived safety is measured, explained, and linked to safety-relevant outcomes and behaviours. Following PRISMA-ScR guidance, a structured search was conducted in Scopus and Web of Science. After screening and eligibility assessment, 29 studies addressing perceived safety in e-scooter and/or e-bike contexts were included. Data were charted using an evidence-type taxonomy that distinguishes Direct perceived safety (DPS) measures (self-reported ratings of safety/comfort/risk), Objective safety outcomes (OSO) (crashes, injury severity, near-misses), Behavioural/indirect proxies (BIP) (e.g., helmet use, rule compliance, lane choice, speed/braking patterns), and System/policy context (SPC) evidence (regulation, enforcement, platform practices, under-reporting).
Evidence was synthesised through descriptive quantitative mapping and narrative synthesis
