Abstract
The industrial sector contributes significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions. Decarbonising its heat supply represents one of the most critical challenges for achieving European climate neutrality targets. Italian industries, which largely rely on fossil fuels, must comply with increasingly stringent national regulations in order to meet European decarbonisation objectives. Considering also market trends and recent government incentives, this thesis aims to assess the techno-economic feasibility of industrial electrification in Italy through a real-world case study. The analysis is based on a large Italian wood-processing company that requested support for its electrification strategy. The industrial buildings were modelled using Edilclima software, first representing the current plant, then simulating improvement interventions.
The model was developed considering geometric characteristics, envelope properties, plant characteristics and operational schedules, and was calibrated and validated using real energy consumption data to ensure reliability
