Abstract
The growing regulatory pressure of the European Union toward sustainability, transparency, and circular economy principles is redefining how industrial products are designed, manufactured, and managed throughout their lifecycle. Within this context, the Digital Product Passport (DPP) has emerged as a key instrument aimed at ensuring structured, accessible, and lifecycle-oriented product information. Despite the increasing academic and institutional attention, the practical implementation of the DPP in real industrial environments remains a complex and insufficiently formalized challenge. Existing literature predominantly focuses on enabling technologies such as blockchain, ontologies, Digital Twins, and Asset Administration Shells, often conceptualizing the DPP as an autonomous platform. However, limited attention is devoted to how DPP-related data is actually generated, governed, and maintained within enterprise information systems.
In industrial contexts, relevant information is not created as “DPP data,” but rather as operational, engineering, logistics, and quality data managed across Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
