Battery passport and second life.
Rel. Sara Vinco. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Computer Engineering, 2026
Abstract
his thesis investigates the design and implementation of a Battery Passport system compliant with Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, with a focus on interoperability, cybersecurity, and architectural scalability. Starting from an in-depth analysis of the regulatory framework and of international initiatives and pilot projects, the work formalises a set of functional and non-functional requirements that translate the legislative provisions into concrete technical specifications. A design-oriented methodology is adopted to bridge normative requirements and practical system development. The proposed solution is based on the assignment of a unique and persistent digital identity to each battery pack, accessible via a QR code, enabling a dynamic digital passport that evolves over time through the recording of life-cycle events and operational data.
The model distinguishes between battery-model information and unit-level data, and implements differentiated access control according to user roles, balancing transparency with confidentiality and data protection
