Abstract
In recent years, the information technology sector has witnessed a persistent shift towards web-based and cloud environments. The need for flexibility brings tools development increasingly towards the web, by the use of stand-alone web applications capable of integrating in modern web-stack IDEs like Visual Studio Code and Eclipse Theia. As a native-focused field, embedded system development strictly relied on desktop IDEs and native-OS widgets due to hardware integration needs and real-time constraints. The thesis focuses on highlighting the reasons, problems and methodologies of migrating Eclipse RCP applications to the web. Three main migration strategies are implemented and integrated within a web-based IDE environment, showcasing architectural migration and emerging technical issues.
The Eclipse RAP pathway aims to be a conservative and minimal-change approach; the React.js pathway works as the web-native re-architecture; and lastly the WebAssembly with Slint pathway is the most modern and heavy-resource-orientated approach
