A Modular Architecture for Real-Time Visualization of CAN Bus Signals in Automotive Systems.
Rel. Stefano Carabelli. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Mechatronic Engineering, 2026
Abstract
This work introduces a standalone telematics platform designed for real-time CAN bus processing using a Raspberry Pi, this architecture provides a fully open-source solution for decoding 11-bit and 29-bit CAN identifiers. At its core, the system leverages Linux SocketCAN and the cantools library to translate raw payloads into human-readable data based on DBC specifications. Processing is handled by a Python-based middleware that manages signal-level filtering and scaling. By utilizing a publish-subscribe model via MQTT, the platform effectively decouples data acquisition from the visualization layer, allowing for high modularity and multi-client support in edge-computing environments.
