Mechanical Design and Integration of an Electric Powertrain Kit for Vehicle Electric Retrofit.
Rel. Stefano Carabelli. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Mechatronic Engineering (Ingegneria Meccatronica), 2026
Abstract
The road transport sector represents one of the primary sources of global carbon dioxide emissions, accounting for approximately 75% of total transport-related emissions and significantly impacting air quality and public health. In this scenario, the transition toward electric propulsion systems is considered one of the most effective strategies to reduce the environmental footprint of mobility. This thesis work analyzes the retrofit solution developed by ElectroFit Systems, known as the EFit Kit, aimed at converting conventional vehicles into fully electric models. The project specifically focuses on the first-generation Fiat Panda, with the objective of preserving the original mechanical architecture, including components such as the differential and gearbox, to maintain the vehicle's structural integrity.
The research and development activity utilized SolidWorks CAD software for the virtual reconstruction of the vehicle's geometry, allowing for a precise analysis of clearances and spatial constraints necessary to avoid mechanical interferences during installation
