Abstract
A current research topic in the communications and radar communities is the integration of communication and radar capabilities within the same hardware. This is particularly relevant in mobile networks, where extensive infrastructure is already deployed, making it a big topic in the current 6G agenda. To maximize the use of existing infrastructure, the focus of this thesis is on Frequency Range 1 (FR1), also known as sub-6 GHz. Although this frequency range benefits from widespread deployment, it also comes with several challenges, such as limited bandwidth and antenna arrays with few elements due to the large wavelength. This thesis proposes strategies for both cooperative and uncooperative scenarios, considering the object of interest either as part of the network and responsive, or outside the network and non-responsive.
All proposed methods are validated through real-world measurements using 5G testbeds running OpenAirInterface, a standard compliant implementation of 3GPP cellular networks
