Abstract
Smartphones are devices that play a fundamental role in the daily life of many individuals, but they also represent one of the main targets of cyberattacks. Every individual presents a level of cyber risk, depending on their online activities and the degree of exposure to digital threats. Existing literature has confirmed that criminological theories, such as the Lifestyle Routine Activity Theory (LRAT) can be applied to the virtual context, by incorporating in the analysis contextual and social factors, as well as behavioral attitudes. The present study investigates, using data from a national adult survey (N=7064), how gambling behavior impacts a user’s cybervictimization risk profile, by influencing the relationship among several social factors, namely Smartphone Addiction, Social Support and Social Digital Pressure, and the criminological framework defined by LRAT.
The analysis is carried out using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and it includes a mediation analysis, a multi-group testing and the conceptualization of a second-order variable
