Abstract
This thesis investigates the medieval abbey complex of Sant’Antonio di Ranverso, a religious, cultural and territorial landmark along the historic Via Francigena pilgrimage route, at the threshold between the Turin plain and the Susa Valley. Today, the site is partially abandoned and has largely lost its original hospital and spiritual role, risking progressive marginalisation within a rapidly changing territorial context. The research examines how the abbey can be reactivated through slow tourism and adaptive reuse, in a way that is sustainable and consistent with its historical and territorial character. Different methodologies have been used, starting from a comprehensive territorial, historical and architectural analysis.
In both pilgrimage and architectural contexts, different international case studies of adaptive reuse have been reviewed to identify strategies for sustainability and heritage enhancement
