Abstract
Building design is increasingly shaped by multiple sustainability goals, including lower operational primary energy demand, reduced embodied impacts over the building life cycle, and healthy indoor conditions, which places building performance at the center of architectural decision-making. In this context, the façade is more than an enclosure: it mediates heat and light, and it can host building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems that contribute to on-site renewable electricity. Since BIPV systems influence both electricity production and the indoor environment, their performance cannot be evaluated from PV yield alone. It depends on how building energy demand, daylight, and thermal comfort respond together, and on how this response changes with façade geometry, orientation, and operation—especially in dense urban settings where surrounding obstructions can strongly affect incident irradiance.
This thesis develops a simulation framework for the integrated evaluation of building and BIPV performance across key indicator domains
