Abstract
This thesis investigates how changes in street network configuration can have effects on children’s accessibility to public spaces. The study focuses on children as a vulnerable group whose everyday mobility strongly depends on safe, readable, and well-connected street environments. Using Turin (Italy) and Braga (Portugal) as comparative case studies, the research evaluates whether reconfiguring street networks through the Superblockify model can improve access to public spaces for children. The analysis combines Space Syntax methods with the Superblockify tool to compare current conditions and the post-intervention scenario. Accessibility is assessed through measures of integration and exposure through movement at both neighbourhood and local catchment scales.
These indicators are then combined into a composite accessibility index tailored to child-related public spaces
