Abstract
Historical building adaptive reuse is one of the most important tasks in today’s architectural discussions. In Europe, there are many religious buildings that have stopped being used because of changes in demographic composition and community use. Although these buildings have had an important role in culture over several centuries and despite the high level of architectural knowledge, they might be abandoned unless there is sustainable adaptive reuse to ensure that they continue to meet today’s needs (Bullen & Love, 2011; Plevoets & Van Cleempoel, 2019). The example of such an approach is that of the "Abbey of Santa Maria del Piano" located at "Orvinio" in "Lazio".
This abbey was built during the 9th century and has experienced several changes throughout its history with regard to its shape and use
