Abstract
This experimental research work concerns lightweight concrete, an incredible material increasing in sustainable and high-performance construction, due to its potential to reduce structural loads while maintaining adequate properties. Recent advancements in additive technologies, such as foaming agents and superplasticizers, enabled the design of concrete mixes that have a high compressive strength, while keeping a low water to cement ratio. This thesis work emerges from the need to carry out studies and experiments both in the laboratory and in bigger scale environments, such as production sites. Because of these needs, one of the main challenges is to address gaps in replicability of laboratory mix designs at industrial scale, investigating performance consistency using both laboratory testing at Politecnico di Torino and scale-up experiments in collaboration with LPM in Mondovì.
In this context, the efficiency, cost-saving and sustainability benefits related to this material, can significantly contribute to the necessity of reducing environmental impacts in construction while ensuring structural safety and durability
