Abstract
This thesis explores the creation, development, and potential impact of Juakit, an innovative off-grid solar solution by KeepTheSun, a circular startup that repurposes second-life photovoltaic (PV) panels to address global energy poverty. In collaboration with Coesa S.r.l., the project evolves from a European digital marketplace for used solar panels into a tangible product aimed at providing affordable, reliable, and clean energy to underserved communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Central to this research is the development of Juakit, a modular, portable solar kit designed to meet the energy needs of households, schools, health centers, and small businesses in off-grid settings. The study emphasizes the circular economy model, focusing on the reuse of decommissioned solar panels sourced from Europe.
By utilizing second-life panels, Juakit offers an environmentally sustainable and economically feasible solution to energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa, where over 660 million people still lack reliable electricity
