Distribution and Sustainable Innovation in Polymers: Analysis and Prospects for Nexeo Plastics.
Rel. Abdollah Saboori. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Industrial Production And Technological Innovation Engineering, 2025
Abstract
This thesis examines how the plastics industry—pushed by new regulation, shifting supply chains, and process innovation—is redefining the distributor’s role: from logistics intermediary to strategic partner that speeds up the adoption of sustainable polymers and next-generation processing technologies. The core goal is to translate sector megatrends into competitive advantage for Nexeo Plastics over the coming years. The scope is mainly Europe (2020–2028) and covers thermoplastics (commodity, engineering, and high-performance), including recycled and bio-based grades. The study uses a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative desk research, in-company field evidence, and classic strategy tools (SWOT, VRIO, gap analysis, scenario planning). The work is structured in six chapters, moving from the macro context to detailed, actionable recommendations.
