Beyond Aesthetic: Smart Packaging for the Beauty Industry

In recent decades, the topic of packaging has become increasingly important, particularly in relation to environmental impact. This thesis dives into the beauty and cosmetics industry, focusing on airless pump dispenser packaging, aiming to identify its main strengths and weaknesses, and how to address them through the use of smart packaging solutions. After analysing a range of 10 case studies, each presenting different scenarios and resulting in different solutions, and evaluating them by key criteria, the outcome is a set of guidelines meant to lead the design of cosmetic packaging towards a more sustainable, inclusive and functional direction.
