Design and Implementation of a Digital Twin for a Multi-Technology Automated System.
Rel. Luigi Mazza. Politecnico di Torino, Corso di laurea magistrale in Mechatronic Engineering (Ingegneria Meccatronica), 2025
Abstract
This thesis provides a general overview of the growing needs that have emerged with industrial evolution, with particular focus on Industry 4.0. One of the technologies that are being considered in modern industrial systems is the concept of the Digital Twin. Digital twins are now recognized as essential tools for the development and management of intelligent, automated systems. Their applications span a wide range of domains, including real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, optimization of energy consumption, and rapid troubleshooting of faults, all of which contribute to enhancing overall system efficiency and reliability. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to the design and development of a digital twin for an educational-purpose automatic machine known as the Rocker.
This machine was designed as an educational tool to demonstrate the fundamental principles of industrial automation and control systems
