Abstract
Kochi, a historic coastal city in Kerala, India, is facing rapid growth due to migration and unplanned development, causing issues like floods, extreme heat, and a polluted environment. This transformation is reducing public spaces and diminishing the sense of community, essential for cultural exchange and social connections. The neglect of the city's canal system, once vital for nature and the economy, has further worsen these problems, hindering the city's ability to recover from disasters and maintain a high quality of life. This research investigates using climate-resilient planning to rejuvenate public spaces in Kochi, with a focus on the canal regions. Through a concept (Social Green Structuration), the study proposes a strategy that combines nature restoration with creating inclusive spaces for everyone, striving to strike a balance between environmental preservation and fostering a vibrant community.
The study examines Kochi's tropical monsoon climate, known for heavy rainfall, high humidity, and Urban Heat Island effects that worsen flooding and discomfort
