Abstract
This thesis explores the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) as a solution for sustainable development in mountainous regions, using Rosazza, a historic town in Valle Cervo, Italy, as a case study. The research investigates how BIM can address the unique challenges of these regions, including complex terrain, harsh climates, and the need for heritage preservation. Focusing on energy efficiency, infrastructure optimization, and community engagement, the study evaluates the potential of BIM to modernize buildings, improve thermal performance, and foster resilient infrastructure while preserving Rosazza’s architectural and cultural identity. The thesis develops two BIM models, one for a well-maintained building and another for a less-maintained structure, both categorized in low energy efficiency classes (G and F).
Through data-driven simulations, it demonstrates BIM’s capacity to deliver tailored interventions such as retrofitting, energy optimization, and structural resilience
