Abstract
The thesis completely appraises the seismic vulnerability and safety of an existing reinforced concrete (RC) building. The survey was comprised of extensive site visits, material tests, and structural analyses based on Italian legislation (NTC 2018). Under various seismic actions, the building is assessed using linear and non-linear static analysis with target performances. The major discovery is that unconfined beam-column joints in the structure were prone to failure due to very high seismic risk before interventions. On comparison, through strengthening beam-column connections, steel jacketing of columns, shear reinforcement in beams as well as flexural reinforcement for beams; the seismic performance of structure improved significantly.
Nonlinear static analysis (Pushover) indicated that applied load was less than structure strength thus ζE>1 which confirms compliance with earthquake safety codes
