Abstract
Which strategies are useful along a gender perspective to improve women’s perception of safety in public spaces? Does women’s perception of safety changes in the public space after dark, and how is it perceived in the context of Colombian culture? Is lighting a gender perspective strategy to activate parks after dark? The present thesis focuses on understanding the main factors that affect women’s perception of safety in public space. The lack of inclusive urban planning combined with the minimal involvement of women in the design process, results in high levels of rejection and fear associated with walking or being alone in public space.
Hence, increasing their vulnerability to becoming potential victims
