Abstract
This study explores the potential for urban regeneration by transforming Lisbon’s “Antiga GALP” site into an environmentally sustainable urban park with urban agriculture as a core element. As cities around the world with rapid urbanization, food security challenges, and climate change, the integration of green spaces and urban agriculture offers pathways to enhance ecological resilience, community cohesion, and local food production. By analyzing Lisbon’s unique geographic, climatic, and social factors, as well as successful urban agriculture policies from international case studies, this study outlines a strategic framework for urban agriculture in Lisbon. The proposed design builds on Lisbon’s policy support, community engagement, and natural resources to create a sustainable and inclusive urban agricultural park.
This vision contributes to Lisbon’s green transformation and provides a replicable model for urban regeneration that addresses the ecological, social, and economic dimensions of urban sustainability.
