This thesis deals with sustainability themes, with a focus on special waste valorisation and the figure of the industrial symbiosis facilitator. It introduces concepts and differences between the definitions in the waste and circular economy environments. Key industrial waste management processes, relevant waste legislation, international agreements promoting industrial symbiosis, key enablers of sustainability and circular economy, and difficulties and best practices to promote a greener economy are explored. In addition, it develops internship experience and the Sfridoo’s achievements and projects as an Italian leader in helping companies make the concrete transition to the circular economy. Finally, it concludes with reflections on the difficulties the industrial symbiosis facilitator faces in the present and future towards minimizing the economic and environmental impact of waste within industrial processes..
