"Towards a Solarpunk Architectural Manifesto and its applications".
Rel. Michele Bonino, Edoardo Bruno. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Architecture For Sustainability, 2024
Abstract
This thesis initially offers an in-depth analysis of the evolution of architecture as an expression of the future, culminating in the Solarpunk movement, an optimistic and sustainable vision of the built world. The focal point of the research, the Solarpunk movement, is examined in its origins and analyzed through a critical lens that encompasses literature, cinematography, society, economics, engineering, and artificial intelligence. The Solarpunk Manifesto by Adam Flynn and Missy Sturge emerges as a key reference point for interpreting this vision. The thesis continues with a section on Solarpunk Architecture, which introduces the speculative approach through media and design scenarios. Through the writing of the Solarpunk Architecture Manifesto, several architectural projects, both built and unbuilt, are studied and analyzed.
The architectural investigation extends from theory to practical reality, with a case study of specific projects in Singapore and a detailed analysis of projects incorporating images and visual materials to illustrate the concrete application of emerging theories
