3D Geological Modelling and InfraBIM Interoperability: Tunnel Euralpin Lyon-Turin.
Rel. Anna Osello, Nicola Rimella, Michele Positano. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Civil Engineering, 2024
Abstract
In tunneling, the unpredictable geology makes it crucial to visualize and understand the interacting layers from the subsurface. Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodology, operates as an important element which enhances design accuracy and project coordination for tunnel infrastructure. It allows more optimal interactions which improve the efficiency of all services, and it plays a key role in managing risks and resources, in the project development. A 3D geological model, in tunneling, incorporates a digital representation of the underground features and properties which are crucial for planning and overseeing the project. Given the complex nature of the terrain and the subsurface, surveys and testing are of great importance to gain insight into the geological formations and their spatial distribution.
The characterization, however, is often not sufficient for a comprehensive understanding of the entire excavation area
