A method for evaluating the effect of a POGO suppression device.
Rel. Dario Giuseppe Pastrone, Filippo Masseni. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Aerospace Engineering, 2024
Abstract
In this thesis, a preliminary investigation was conducted for dimensioning a POGO suppression device (PSD). The research was conducted at Avio within the Colleferro facilities, in the context of Vega-E upper stage M10 liquid propulsion module program. Subsequent to a trade-off analysis, a branch accumulator incorporating a passive level control was modeled using EcosimPro. The simulation covers the entire operational process, ranging from draining to steady state with pressure oscillations. The PSD model development focused on the containment of level oscillations within acceptable thresholds, the determination of the total helium mass required for accumulator pressurization and specification of PSD dimensions to effectively suppress the targeted propulsion frequency.
Two distinct models were used for the PSD model, a 0D model and a 1D model
