Abstract: |
While ISS is probably entering its last years of operational life, human space exploration is nowhere near stoppage and is looking at the farthest frontier ever thinkable: permanently presence on the Moon surface. Although Moon village and the new international space station are both just ideas for now, they introduce common problems like power supply, resource availability or human environmental control and life support system. The capability of the system to generate and even recycle water from different sources is, as for today, more than just a concept and it was first implemented on the ISS, back in the first years of the new millennium, elaborating majorly crew’s urine, condensate, Sabatier product water and liquids from wet towel. This work focuses on the testing development of the Water processing system on both orbiting human environment (TAS-Italy RECLS breadboard) and planetary habitat. Specifically for the Moon, it will discuss purification of regolith derived water for LUWEX project. |
