Abstract
The ever-increasing demand for sustainable water production necessitates the development of efficient and robust systems capable of managing water production machinery effectively. For this purpose, IoT has a central role to collect data and to command machines. The primary objective of this thesis is to develop a comprehensive system capable of collecting, storing, analyzing, linking, and visualizing data generated by water production IoT machines. The proposed platform utilizes as its foundation an open source Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) IoT platform called DeviceHive. The platform was then extended in its functions by using microservices architecture, to enable flexibility and scalability. This development style was chosen so that the system could be easily enhanced, changed, or evolved in the future.
Throughout the research, extensive attention was dedicated to data security and system resilience
