Abstract: |
In recent years, the management of construction projects has undergone a remarkable transformation across their entire life cycles, from initial planning stages through to operation and maintenance. This evolution has been driven by the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information System (GIS), both of which play pivotal roles in supporting construction endeavors. With their distinct advantages, BIM and GIS have revolutionized the utilization of construction project information, particularly by aligning it with the dynamic realities of construction sites, thus demonstrating their critical importance throughout the lifespan of building projects. Recognizing the immense potential of these technologies in enhancing construction project management, there is an increasing imperative for their seamless integration. This integration marks a significant advancement in smart construction management practices, offering unprecedented opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness. The primary focus of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive examination of the research and practices surrounding the interoperability of BIM and GIS and its transformative impact on construction management. Through an in-depth exploration, this thesis aims to shed light on the practical applications of integrated BIM-GIS systems in construction management, illustrating their pivotal role across various aspects of project execution. Furthermore, the thesis will present compelling case studies to showcase successful implementations of integrated BIM-GIS systems in real-world scenarios, providing valuable insights into their potential for widespread adoption in the construction industry. |
