Abstract:

Well control is a key aspect of safety in drilling operations of oil and gas wells. This thesis describes the work conducted in collaboration with Drillmec SpA, an Italian manufacturer of oil drilling rigs and equipment. The main objectives of this work are to ensure well control skills, enhance operators' competencies through the implementation and the optimization of a new well control simulator. Furthermore, this study delves into the importance of simulator-based exams, conducts a comparative analysis of existing certification exams, and commits to optimizing the application of simulators in achieving the certifications issued by IWCF (International Well Control Forum) and IADC (International Association of Drilling Contractors). Through this research, the aim is to contribute to the continuous improvement of well control training and certification processes, ultimately promoting safety and efficiency within the drilling industry.
