OPTIMISATION OF HYDROGEN SYSTEM TO PRODUCE HIGH-TEMPERATURE HEAT IN THE GLASS INDUSTRY.
Rel. Marta Gandiglio, Paolo Marocco. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Energy And Nuclear Engineering, 2023
Abstract
In the context of the decarbonisation of the high-temperature industry, the H2GLASS project focuses on the production of hydrogen in order to substitute the natural gas: hydrogen will be the only fuel for the furnace combustion into a glass and aluminum industry. The hydrogen microgrid presented in the thesis is composed by a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) as electrolyser, the compressor and the tank as the storage unit and an additional bottle tank will provide an extra supply of hydrogen. The power supply of the electrolyser comes from electrical grid and photovoltaic (PV) generation, with data relative to the Catalunia region.
The electrolyser is connected to an hydrogen circuit, where the hydrogen can be directly burnt at the burner or can be stored by means of the storage system
