Abstract:

The Italian chocolate market is an ever-expanding industry that has been growing steadily over the past decade. Italy produces some of the finest quality chocolate in the world and the industry has become a major source of revenue for the country. This thesis aims to examine the current state of the Italian chocolate market and its future prospects. It starts with a brief introduction to the history of chocolate, the discovery of the plant in Latin America, its importation as cocoa, its processing and then its distribution as chocolate. Subsequently the research explores various aspects of the market, including production, consumption, pricing, and trends. Additionally, an analysis of the major players in the market and their strategies is provided. Special attention will be devoted to the “Cioccolato Modicano”, notably its history, unique characteristics and flavor profiles as well as the current status of production in the area and the ensuing socio-economic implications. The thesis concludes by offering some insights about the future of the Italian chocolate markets and the potential for Cioccolato Modicano to become a more widely available and appreciated product.
