Abstract
Electrification is constantly gaining ground in the transport industry. Despite a lower diffusion pace, maritime sector benefits from the momentum created by the automotive one. In situations where limitations regarding the required range autonomy do not hinder development, the electric boat market has been making significant progress. With an increased number of marinas installing charging facilities, recreational boating has experienced the rise of several competitive offers. In the meanwhile, vessels operating on short to medium journeys are already a commercially viable option for waterborne transport of passengers due to undeniable advantages in terms of comfort, efficiency and environmental impact. The present work develops a computationally efficient Simulink model able to mimic the propulsion system performances of a DC electric motor boat equipped with photovoltaic panels as range extender.
Firstly, relying on the availability of few data sheet parameters, every relevant system component is described by means of a mathematical model able to capture its main dynamics and harmonize it with those of the entire propulsion chain
