Abstract:

This research thesis focuses on the spillovers from the aerospace industry to understand where they spread and which are the factors affecting this process. Through patents data and citation path, the thesis aims to discover where the aerospace knowledge flows. Start-ups and small-medium companies have been selected by the dealroom platofrm and then a sample of patents has been gathered. The thesis describes several statistics and methodology applied for analyzing patents data. The results indicated that aerospace spillovers spread more easily outside of the sector boundaries than remaining within the industry. Analysis of the results shows that aerospace technologies are useful for many different industrial domains. The thesis estimates logit models on different samples to understand which variables can affect the spillovers diffusion. The evidences show that the spillovers direction is mainly related to the IPC codes that classify the industrial domains of each patent.
