Analysis of an inflatable structure for a Martian dome and critical aspects of the habitat.
Rel. Alfonso Pagani, Paolo Maggiore. Politecnico di Torino, Master of science program in Aerospace Engineering, 2022
Abstract
This thesis stems from teamwork between students from different departments, specifically two aerospace engineers, one civil engineer and one engineer in science of material. The focus was on the design of the SpaceLand Mars Habitat, mainly dealing with the structural analysis of the different components, technologies and materials to realise it. In addition to an overview of the global project, the critical issues of the construction of a human settlement on Mars and the study of the inflatable structures composing the habitat are highlighted in this thesis. Subsequently, the trend of the natural frequencies of the membrane and the variation of the modal shapes in relation to the load are evaluated, using both a comparative analysis by images and the Modal Assurance Criterion..
