Abstract
The following Research master's degree thesis dive into a systemic analysis of the young adult, it pursues financial independence and the role of consumer durables through all of it, in the territory of Turin. The objective being Identifying the possible opportunities for consumer durable obtention in which open design can be applied in order to help young adults achieve financial Independence. The research dive into the concepts of the young adult, settling the age range between the ages of 18 through to 30, the definition of consumer durables, being so consumer goods with an expected duration of more than 3 years and financial independence, a person is covering his daily expenses, planning for the future, and is able to meet his basic needs.
Through a systemic design methodology, the thesis demonstrates the relation between consumer durables and the achievement of financial independence as it becomes a tool for wealth and unveils the issues that surround the systems in place for this kind of product, as is the case with the functional and symbolic value, the quality, the price (repaired, new or used), and the warranty
