Exploring novel strategies for generating electricity with light.

Abstract
The goal of this internship is to exploit the physics needed to develop a new type of solar cells. Conventional solar cells are based on diodes in which a built‐in potential sends the charges into the circuit. In this internship, we will study solar cell metamaterials that will induce temperature gradients within the population of excited carriers. Due to this gradient, a carrier diffusion should occur (hot carrier Seebeck effect), thereby producing electricity. The work includes nanofabrication (with the help of a PhD student of the team) and extended electrical and optical characterization (electrical measurements, photoluminescence measurements) to assess the feasibility of the approach.
