This thesis is an empirical study on the use of dividend policy by majority shareholders to manage the relationship with minority shareholders. Trough an empirical study from a sample of listed companies, two alternative explanations of drivers of dividend policy are examined: the opportunistic hypothesis and conflict reduction hypothesis.
