Abstract: |
In a particularly vulnerable context such as Spain, the effects of climate change are no longer a distant threat, but a reality that must be faced every day. Therefore, the design of architectural devices capable of adapting cities to environmental factors is a priority that must be taken into account. This thesis work identifies this need as an opportunity to rethink the public space of cities, and vice versa, investigating how this relationship can be translated into occasions for projects at the urban scale. The issue of climate change is therefore addressed in a proactive and broader way than the current trends, that see it as a simple problem looking for a solution, placing mankind and the way people live the spaces of cities at the center of the debate. Estratos Activos is the strategy developed, starting from this premise, for redefining the spaces along the Guadalmedina river in Málaga. Through this case study, the perfect combination of an important unsolved urban space and a series of environmental criticalities, it is indeed possible to experiment with new ways of designing the city in relation to the new climate condition. |
